色鮮やかな装束を身にまとった馬が、初夏の岩手路を練り歩く「チャグチャグ馬コ」が１０日行われ、岩手県滝沢村の鬼越蒼前（おにこしそうぜん）神社から約１５キロ離れた盛岡市の盛岡八幡宮に向かった。　「チャグチャグ馬コ」は、農耕馬の労をねぎらい、五穀豊穣（ほうじょう）を祈った風習に由来する伝統行事で、国の無形民俗文化財に指定されている。

Chagu Chagu Umakko (June 15)

This annual event marks the close of the rice planting. One hundred horses colorfully attired march in single file from Sozen Shrine in Takizawa to Morioka's Hachiman Shrine, a fifteen kilometers pilgrimage. Upon reaching the shrine, a successful harvest and offer thanks to the horses. As "umakko" (horses) walk, bells attached to their decorations seem to say "chagu chagu."
